2013 MAY/JUNE WAEC RESULT RELEASED!!! TO BE AVAILABLE ONLINE TODAY

HURRAY!!! This is a very good news for all the students that sat for the 2013 MAY/JUNE West African Senior School Certificate Examinations as the result was released yesterday. Announcing the release of the result at a press conference held at the WAEC office Yaba Lagos, the head of the Nigerian National Office of WAEC, Mr. Charles M. Eguridu expressed the profound gratitude of the council to everyone that contributed to the success of the examination including the three personnel of the Council who were brutally murdered by unknown gunmen while on their way from Yola to Maiduguri on official examination duty, during the conduct of the examination.

"Gentlemen of the media, the conduct of the May/June 2013 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) diet was successfully concluded on May 17, 2013.  Unfortunately, three personnel of the Council were brutally murdered by unknown gunmen while on their way from Yola to Maiduguri on official examination duty, during the conduct of the examination. I crave your indulgence to observe a minute’s silence for these three dedicated staff of the Council who died on active duty during the conduct of the May/June 2013 WASSCE.

Gentlemen of the media, may I use this opportunity, once again, to express our profound gratitude to our supervisors, invigilators, custodians and other ad-hoc personnel for their dedication to duty during the conduct of the May/June 2013 WASSCE. We sincerely wish to thank the Federal Government, as well as the security agencies particularly in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States for all the support rendered to the Council during the conduct of the examination. We equally want to sincerely thank the Federal and State Ministries of Education for their support in terms of facilities and logistics given to us during the conduct of the examination."
The WAEC head gave a break down of the result as follows:

"Today, gentlemen of the media, I am happy to announce the release of the results of the May/June 2013 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

A total of 1,689,188 candidates registered, for the May/June 2013 WASSCE, out of which 1,671,268 candidates, consisting of 920,416 male and 750,852 female candidates sat the examination. Out of the total number of candidates, 1,543,683 candidates, representing 91.38% have their results fully released, while 145,505 candidates, representing  8.62% have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors mainly traceable to the candidates and schools in the course of registration or writing the examination.  Such errors are being corrected by the Council to enable the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released subsequently.

Of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 889,636 candidates (53.23%), obtained six (6) credits and above; 1,074,065 candidates, representing 64.26% obtained five (5) credits and above.  In addition 1,225,591 candidates, representing 73.33 % obtained credit and above in four (4) subjects, while 1,353,273 candidates, representing 80.97% obtained credit and above in three (3) subjects.  A total of 1,465,581 candidates (87.69 %) obtained credit and above in two (2) subjects.

We are unable to provide statistics of candidates who obtained credit and above in five (5) subjects, including English Language and Mathematics at this time, because many candidates in the North Eastern part of the country have partial results at the moment, due to security challenges encountered there during the conduct of the examination, particularly loss of scripts.

Furthermore, the results of 112,865 candidates, representing  6.75% are being withheld in connection with various cases of examination malpractice. The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the Nigerian Examinations Committee (NEC) of the Council in due course for consideration.  The Committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates through their schools.

A total of 2,176 cases of multiple entries also were discovered during the processing of the results. In line with the Council’s regulation, the entire results of all candidates who are guilty of this act would be cancelled.

A total number of 121 blind candidates registered for the examination.  Out of this number, 117 blind candidates sat the examination. From this figure, 24 candidates, representing 20.51% obtained credit in five (5) subjects including English Language. Blind candidates don’t take Mathematics and Science practicals in WASSCE diets.

Candidates who sat the May/June 2013 WASSCE will be able to check the details of their performance on the Council’s results website: www.waecdirect.org  within the next 24 hours.
