NOTHER SUCCESS SECRET: DON’T LET PERFECTION STOP YOUR SUCCESS

“Anything worth doing is worth doing well This is a very familiar saying with which I quite agree. Yes, there is a special sense of fulfillment that comes with commendations that you are the best. The rewards for the best are many folds of what goes to any other grade. But if you cannot do the good and the better, you cannot do the best! (Barima Tombari N). Being a perfectionist can be one of the most destructive habits standing against your success.

The fear of not being able to do it right prevents many people from starting what they want to do. It is however interesting to know that nothing was done perfectly the very first time. The key is to start. Yes, start and steadily improve from good to better and then to the best. Take an example from the softwares we all use. After the initial development, it is tested, and bugs(software errors) discovered during the test are fixed. There are times when not all the bugs discovered can be fixed immediately and so these bugs will be included in the release note as “known issues” while the developer is still struggling with how to fix them. At times, a beta version of the software is released first so that people can test it more extensively and then bring back comments, issues found, suggestions, functionality to be added, etc. Even when a stable version (i.e not a beta version) is finally released, from the first version, maybe version 1, the developer will continue to make improvements to the software which will reflect in subsequent versions. That is why from Microsoft office word xp, we have Word 2003, word 2007, word 2010 and still counting. Do you understand?

Yes, while it is excellent and commendable that you aim to make the best, it is however worthless if you have goals and the fear of not being able to make or be the best stops you from achieving them. The target of best or perfect should not stop you from starting. Why not adopt this formula below:

  1.   Start what you want to do (even if you are not perfect or the best you desire)
  2.   Improve  on what  you have  done  until it is good enough
  3.   Finish with something better to offer (Definitely, as you start new ideas will come to you and what you have  to offer is likely to be better than what you started with)
  4.  Get feedback from others (especially your customers or clients)
  5.  Improve and polish what you have done until it gets better (Using the feedback and new ideas you have got)
6.  CONTINUE TO IMPROVE!!! (yes, with constant practice, you can only get better)

IF YOU DO NOT START, THERE WILL BE NOTHING TO IMPROVE UPON.
NOTHING HAPPENS UNTIL YOU START!!!
