END OF ACTIVITY NOTIFICATION MESSAGE FROM MTN: WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

You may have recently received several alerts on your mobile device indicating your data/voice service usage from your Mobile Telephone Service Provider – MTN. They have just informed us that this was as a result of the implementation of a directive by NCC to ensure that customers are notified of their credit usage/balance after each activity.

The complete text of the MTN advisory is hereby reproduced below:

For clarity and billing transparency on our customers’ activity on the network, NCC has mandated that End of Activity Notification be activated for all MTN customers; Prepaid and Postpaid effective November 1, 2012.
The End of Activity Notification (EOAN) is a notification message that informs customers about the actual charge of their last activity at the end of that transaction.
This notification message will include: total cost of last activity and the remaining balance in the customer’s account at the end of every voice call, SMS and Data activity.
However, customers will be able to deactivate the notification by texting EOCN OFF to 131 and they can re-activate it by texting EOCN ON to 131.
Kindly note that customers will NOT be charged for activating and deactivating the notification message.”
