M.I and Joke Silva become UN ambassadors
Veteran
actress Joke Silva and rapper Jude Abaga have
been drafted as goodwill ambassadors for the UN office on drugs and
crime, UNODC.
The pair were
decorated on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 in Abuja, during the launch of the ‘I am
Priceless’ campaign against human trafficking and smuggling of migrants into
the country.
Speaking on the
appointment, the UN resident coordinator, Angela Atangana disclosed
that the campaign was sponsored by the EU and NAPTIP (National
Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons) and aimed at drawing
attention to the many ills in the society.
She added that
the entertainment industry has a role to play in the correction of certain
ills, hence their decision to select the duo to help with the campaign.
While Silva will be the goodwill ambassador against human
trafficking, M.I will be the goodwill ambassador against smuggling of migrants.
The campaign will span a period of three years and it will be implemented
in Lagos, Edo, Benue, Anambra, Cross-river, Niger and the FCT.
