Finally and for the first time, the shell livewire program has been specially designed for Ogoni youths in this year 2016 edition. Application period is Monday August 15th to Friday August 26th 2016. The shell livewire program is not new in any way. The shell livewire social investment program has been "supporting bright young businesses since 1982". The program has supported over 880,000 entrepreneurs! Though it started in the Uk in 1982, it has been replicated in 24 countrues around the world where shell operates.

The shell livewire program commenced operation in Nigeria on 27th March, 2003 and is Targeted at youths in the Niger Delta states namely Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Akwa-Ibom.However, due to overwhelming demand from youths outside this region, the company decided in 2014 to expand the program nationally. The national implementation is in the pipeline and will be annoannounced in due course.

Let us hear how shell itself defines the shell livewire program:"Shell LiveWIRE is a social investment programme that aims to help young Nigerians explore the option of starting their own business as a real and viable career option.

It provides support, access to training, guidance, and business mentorship to young entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 35.

The programme operates mainly in the Niger Delta region and aims to inspire, encourage and support young people aged 18-35 to start up their own businesses through the provision of finance and training for young entrepreneurs."

2016 SHELL LIVEWIRE OGONI APPLICATION

Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), operator of the NNPC/Shell/Total/Agip Joint Venture (SPDC JV) announces the commencement of the 2016 LiveWIRE Nigeria Programme specifically targeted at youths in Ogoniland.

LiveWIRE is a youth enterprise development programme supported by the SPDC JV.  The programme aims to inspire, encourage and support young entrepreneurs aged 18-35 to start their own businesses through the provision of training and startup finance.

The LiveWIRE programme objectives are to:
•    Enable youths to establish businesses by providing business planning and management skills through the ‘Become a Successful Business Owner Course’.
•    Provide business startup grants for candidates with the best business plans.  
•    Link successful candidates to third parties like banks, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and allied financial institutions.
•    Provide a volunteer mentoring programme for successful candidates.

•    Business Planning & Management (Become a Successful Business Owner)
•    Business Startup (How to access finance & technology)

Applications eligibility  
Male and female applicants who are indigenes of communities in the following 4 Ogoni LGAs in Rivers State:  Eleme, Tai, Gokana, and Khana aged between 18-35;
•    Must possess a university degree or HND
•    Must possess the  NYSC discharge certificate or certificate of exemption;
•    Must be resident in Rivers State; 
•    Must have an innovative business idea; and
•    Must desire to own and manage a business.

THE FAMOUS POEM, INVICTUS BY WILLIAM ERNEST HENLEY

The famous poem "INVICTUS" by William Ernest Henley. Do you understand it, what have you learned from it?

The poem "INVICTUS" is so popular and powerful. It touched me so much that I had to memorize it completely. interestingly, I found out that it has had same effect on almost all of the world's great men From former US president Theodore Roosevelt to Nelson Mandela in South Africa to Current US president Barack Obama and that is an insignificant part of the long list!

This famous poem was written by William Ernest Henley in 1875 under the following circumstances:

In 1875 one of Henley's legs required amputation due to complications arising from tuberculosis. Immediately after the amputation, he was told that his other leg would require a similar procedure. He chose instead to enlist the services of the distinguished surgeon, Joseph Lister, who was able to save Henley's remaining leg, after multiple surgical interventions on the foot.

While recovering in the infirmary, he was moved to write the verses that became "Invictus". This period of his life, coupled with recollections of an impoverished childhood, were primary inspirations for the poem, and play a major role in its meaning.

This poem is referred to by Napoleon Hill in his famous classic, Think and grow rich. It is the inspiration for former US president Theodore Roosevelt's famous 'man in the arena' speech (a passage in CITIZENSHIP IN A REPUBLIC a speech the President delivered at the Sorbonne Paris, France, April 23, 1910)

The primary message of the poem to me is this: THAT NO MATTER WHAT OUR PRESENT SITUATION OR CIRCUMSTANCES  MIGHT BE, WE ARE THE MASTERS OF OUR FAITH, WE ARE THE CAPTAINS OF OUR SOUL!

 Holding on to this believe causes us to take responsibility for our lives. We don't allow our lives to be determined by the Government, our parents, our religion, our background, our environment, our friends, our spouse, our siblings,etc. Many today blame someone and something else for the situations in their lives! This attitude robbs you of the power to create your own life. To see a dream life and to pursue it with determination that does not recognise failure but faith and persistence. Doing everyday the best you can to advance you in the direction of your dreams without violating the rights of others or the laws of God.

Let us see the words of this poem as written by William Ernest Henley:

"Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

See Theodore Roosevelt's man in the arena which is an offshoot of Henley's invictus:

"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."

William Ernest Henley's invictus was recited by Nelson Mandela to other prisoners in Robben Island while he was incarcerated there and its message of self mastery empowered the freedom fighter.

Happy last day of the month and happy last day of the year too! God is always a good God for it is he alone that brought us this far.

For some days now, two posts on my Facebook page got many hundreds of people(from analytics) and I thought I should share here two. Though they were posted on different dates on my Facebook page, but I will post them together here.

1. As we approach the end of 2015, and 2016 approaches so fast, always remember this in all you do:

2. One important question we need to ask ourselves is this: IF I CONTINUE TO LIVE MY LIFE THE WAY AM LIVING IT NOW, WHERE WILL I BE IN THE NEXT FIVE(5) YEARS, THEN NEXT TEN(10) YEARS? This question demands a HONEST and VERY CAREFUL ANALYSIS. Let me do mine again!

This is a post which I can make very long. However, I will keep it extremely brief and let you(the reader) be the one to expand it in your own head based on your knowledge and experience!

As the festivities get even closer, and the economic problems bite even harder, you will see many scammers who will capitalise on your complains and promise you deals that will help you make all you could not make from January to November in just 5days!!!!!

It still baffles me how some right thinking people and worst of all supposedly educated people fall for some very cheap scams. Well, before you part with your hard earned money this time around, take heed of this very wise counsel from Arkad who happens to be the richest man in Babylon!!!

As we  close in on the yuletide, reemember this:Insure an income for thy future. Look thou at the aged and forget not that in the days to come, thou also will be numbered among them. Therefore invest thy treasures with greatest caution that it be not lost. USURIOUS RATES OF RETURN ARE DECEITFUL SIRENS THAT SING BUT TO LURE THE UNWARY ON THE ROCKS OF LOSS AND REMORSE!
